4 Wonderful Places in SW Michigan
Do you dream of a summer getaway that has stunning beaches, comfortable campgrounds, and tons of fun? If you live in the Midwest, you need to visit southwest Michigan. This place has it all. I used to go there every summer as a teenager, and it was one of the best times of my life. Let me share with you some of the reasons why this destination is so awesome.

Warren Dunes is the beach for adrenaline junkies. It features an enormous sand dune that you can climb and run (or roll) down. It is so tall that you can actually see the Willis Tower in Chicago when you reach the top with a pair of binoculars. It’s a great place to get your heart pumping and your blood flowing. I remember feeling like a kid again when I ran down the giant dune that faces the beach. It felt like flying.
Warren Dunes campground has 182 campsites, six cabins, three group sites, and access to three miles of shoreline. It also has showers, restrooms, fire pits, and picnic tables. It’s perfect for camping with friends or family. I remember having a great time here with my cousin and making a lot of new friends as we explored the campground. It really is the perfect place to create memories with your family.
2. Holland State Park
Holland is the beach for social butterflies. It has a large sandy area, a picnic pavilion, and a playground. It also has a famous lighthouse that makes for a great photo op. I remember meeting new friends here and having a blast jumping off the pier with them. This pier is called the Holland North Pierhead, and is a pleasant walk up and back. We also had fun hanging out at night at the nearby campground by the fire or just walking around.
The campground in Holland has 309 campsites, four cabins, and access to two miles of beach. It also has showers, restrooms, fire pits, and picnic tables, ideal for camping with a large group or a small one. I remember staying here with my best friend growing up and having some of the best conversations of my life. We did what teenagers do: made friends with new people who we’d hang out around campfires.
3. Muskegon State Park
Muskegon State Park has the beach for everyone. It has a lovely beach, a pier, and a historic blockhouse. You can swim in the lake, fish from the pier, or learn about the history of this place at the blockhouse. There is something for everyone here.
Muskegon State Park campground has 247 campsites, two mini cabins, and access to two miles of beach. It also has showers, restrooms, fire pits, and picnic tables. It’s great for camping with a variety of options or preferences. I remember bonding with my older sister here, meeting some cool people, while my aunt found summer romance.
4. Grand Haven State Park
Grand Haven is the beach for everything. It has a boardwalk, a lighthouse, and a musical fountain that plays songs at night. It’s like a mini amusement park on the beach. I recall being fascinated by the melodic fountain and its bright lights. Like the other places mentioned, they too have a campground, as well as popular restaurants nearby, several trails, and a trolley! I wasn’t old enough at the time but the town also has the Lemon Creek winery for the adults to enjoy their award-wnning wines. Grand Haven is just a fun experience all around.

You can find a campground that fits your budget and style, whether you want to go rustic or modern, cabin or camper, or even glamping tent. Good memories are made in these densely forested campgrounds, with their distinct pine scent and bonfire aroma. That, along with the sandy beaches and picture-perfect dunes, is what makes southwest Michigan so special. It was a place where I had an amazing time during those summer months that I’ll never forget. You won’t regret visiting this place and making your own memories.
